Motorola Achieves Price/Performance Milestone With 56F802 Flash-based Hybrid Controller
Ideal Solution For Cost-Sensitive Control Applications Requiring DSP Level Performance
PHOENIX, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Enabling cost-sensitive
applications to go to the next level of computational performance, Motorola,
Inc. (NYSE: MOT - news) today introduced the newest member of the 56800 family of
hybrid controllers. Ideally suited for appliance, home security, and control
applications, the 56F802 device offers the performance of a digital signal
processor (DSP) with the functionality of a microcontroller (MCU) in a single
chip. This device is engineered to enable designers to add DSP functionality
to their current MCU control applications, allowing them to improve the
capabilities of their end product solutions. And with pricing starting at less
than $3.00 for high volume opportunities, this product achieves a new standard
in price/performance for Flash-based hybrid controllers.
The 56F802 MCU/DSP hybrid controller further expands the breadth of
solutions offered by the world's leading embedded processor producer.
The
56800 family is the industry's first architecture designed from the ground up
to integrate the performance and instruction set of a DSP with the control
functions of an MCU in a single core. The 56F802 expands the 56F8xx family to
address a broad range of end applications from cost sensitive to highly
advanced control based applications.
Now customers can address a variety of
applications from industrial to telecom applications with one family of
devices.
"This device meets a critical need in the marketplace and demonstrates our
continued commitment to this architecture," said Debbie Drysdale, vice
president and general manager of Motorola's DSP Standard Products Division.
"By providing exceptional performance and value, the 56800 family allows our
customers to create solutions that enhance their end products.
And with the
ability to provide current and future products that exceed 120 MIPS of
performance, this architecture provides customers room to grow."
Breadth of Solutions
The 56F802 joins a broad family of high performance Flash devices, now in
volume production, including the 56F801, 56F803, 56F805, 56F807, 56F826 and
56F827. With the right mix of advanced peripherals and Flash memory
configurations up to 120K bytes, customers receive the solution flexibility
they need to help solve a variety of product requirements, all within a single
advanced development environment.
The 56F802 creates a paradigm shift in the
embedded control market by changing what you can accomplish at this price
point. Whether you are considering high performance closed loop processing or
voice capability, the 56F802 is engineered to allow you to expand product
capability with a single processor.
